Short answer: pick Omnisend if you want ecommerce email and SMS that work quickly out of the box at a lower starting price. Pick Klaviyo if you have steady order volume and want the deepest customer data, segmentation and analytics, and you’re comfortable paying more as your list grows. Both have small free plans (250 contacts or profiles, 500 emails a month), and both price paid plans by audience size.
This comparison uses each vendor’s official pricing and product pages as they read on 20 October 2026. We haven’t run side-by-side test accounts, so we compare documented features and pricing models rather than claiming performance results.

Pricing: how the bills differ
Both tools charge by audience size, but they count differently. Omnisend counts billable contacts, while Klaviyo counts active profiles, meaning contacts who may receive marketing email. In both cases, removing or suppressing unengaged contacts lowers your bill.
On the day we checked, Omnisend’s pricing page showed Standard from $16 a month and Pro from $59 a month at the entry tier, with a 30% introductory discount for the first three months. Klaviyo’s page calculates a total interactively by profile count, so we can’t quote a fixed entry price. Put the same contact number into both pricing pages before deciding.
Practical tip: run the numbers for today’s list and for twice its size. Many stores pick the cheaper option for today and get surprised a year later.
Automations
Both tools have the core ecommerce flows: welcome, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase and win-back.
- Omnisend focuses on ready-made workflows you can switch on and edit quickly. That’s a big help for a one- or two-person team.
- Klaviyo lets you branch flows on very detailed profile data and supports more complex logic. That’s powerful if someone will maintain it.
For timing that works in either tool, see our abandoned cart guide and post-purchase sequence guide.
Segmentation and analytics
This is Klaviyo’s biggest advantage. It’s built around a unified customer profile with order, browsing, engagement and support data, and it markets a dedicated analytics product. Data-heavy brands can build segments such as “bought twice, last order 60–90 days ago, opened in the last 30 days” and track revenue by flow.
Omnisend’s segmentation covers the practical ecommerce cases (purchases, product views, engagement, location), and its AI suggests audience segments. For most small stores that’s enough. Our segmentation guide lists eight starter segments you can build in either tool.
SMS and other channels
- Omnisend: SMS is part of Pro, with per-message pricing from $0.007 depending on country, and web push on every plan.
- Klaviyo: SMS and other mobile messages are priced separately, and Klaviyo lists RCS, WhatsApp, mobile app and social channels too.
If you only need email plus occasional SMS, Omnisend is simpler. If you’re planning a multi-channel programme with an app, Klaviyo covers more.
Reporting: what you’ll actually look at
Both tools report on opens, clicks and revenue attributed to campaigns and flows. The difference is depth. Klaviyo’s analytics let you dig into cohorts, segments and predicted values, which pays off when someone reviews them every week. Omnisend’s reports focus on the numbers a small team checks most: revenue by campaign and automation, conversion rates and channel performance across email, SMS and push. Attribution windows and rules differ between tools, so don’t compare the two dashboards directly. Use your store’s own order data as the source of truth. Our campaign performance calculator helps you compare like for like.
Ease of use
Omnisend is generally simpler to set up because of its focus and pre-built flows. Klaviyo has more screens and options because it does more. Neither is hard, but the time cost matters if you’re a solo founder.
Integrations
Both connect natively to Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and other platforms. Klaviyo lists 350+ integrations and Omnisend 305+. If you rely on a specific reviews, loyalty or subscription app, check both marketplaces for it.
Which should you choose?
| Your situation | Better fit |
|---|---|
| Solo founder or small team, wants flows running this week | Omnisend |
| Need email + SMS on a budget | Omnisend |
| Steady order volume, want deep segments and analytics | Klaviyo |
| Planning app, WhatsApp or RCS messaging | Klaviyo |
| Large list of quiet contacts, cost is key | Neither is ideal; compare Brevo |
| Mostly simple newsletters | Neither is necessary; compare MailerLite |
A 30-minute decision test
- Write down your contact count now and your expected count in 12 months.
- Price both tools at both numbers, including SMS if you’ll use it.
- List the three flows you’ll build first and check both tools have templates for them.
- Decide who will maintain segments. If nobody will, lean towards Omnisend.
- Check your must-have apps in both integration lists.
Switching later
Omnisend advertises a free migration service, including moving from Klaviyo, so starting with one and switching later is possible. Migration still takes effort: rebuilding flows, checking consent records and warming up sending. Choose for the next 12–24 months, not just this month.
Common mistakes when choosing between them
- Comparing the free plans. Both are tiny, so compare the plan you’ll actually pay for.
- Ignoring SMS costs. Text messages are priced per message and by country with both tools. Put a realistic monthly SMS volume into your budget.
- Buying features you won’t use. Predictive analytics only pays off if someone acts on it every week.
- Keeping every contact forever. Both tools charge by audience size, so a sunset policy for unengaged contacts saves money and protects deliverability.
Real-world scenarios
A new Shopify jewellery store with 600 contacts and one founder: Omnisend gets welcome, cart and browse flows live in an afternoon, and Pro adds SMS for cart reminders once there’s budget. An established supplement brand with 40,000 profiles, subscriptions and a two-person retention team: Klaviyo’s profile data, predictive fields and analytics are worth the higher bill, because replenishment timing drives most revenue.
One more practical point: whichever tool you choose, keep a simple record of your flows, their triggers and their delays in a shared document. If you ever switch, that record turns a stressful migration into a checklist, and it helps anyone new on the team understand what customers receive and when.
Our take
For most small stores, Omnisend is the more practical start: quicker setup, a lower entry price and SMS in one plan. Klaviyo is the better long-term platform for brands that run on data and have the people to use it.
